News Release! – As a leader or a parent you will get tired, stressed, and overwhelmed. You will feel like you’re in over your head, with very little energy to move forward.

For the last few weeks we have been addressing ways to take care of yourself so that you can be at the top of your game, and effectively serve your people.

I have realized that if I rely on myself for handling this personal energy it is like riding a roller coaster. Many things impact my mood and energy. I need a higher power to help in this critical area.

Maintaining a focus first and foremost on the spiritual aspect of self-care renews strength and provides never-ending energy. As it promises in Isaiah 40: 28-31 it allows me to “soar on wings like eagles and not become weary”, and that has a positive impact on people around me.

If there is a secret sauce for the faith-based servant leader, this is it. If we have to rely on ourselves, we get overwhelmed and lose control of our personal well-being and energy. But we have the opportunity to lean on God who makes all things possible.

Making proper choices in this area will have a positive impact on your ability to effectively lead those people you are serving.

Spirit

Pray often. We often have more on our plate than we can handle. I think God intends it that way, so that we know we need to rely on him. Take everything to God in prayer. Maintain consistent conversation with your Father, leaning on Him for health, guidance, wisdom, comfort, and peace. I never get in front of a customer or audience without asking God to bring me the proper words needed for the situation. He has never failed me!

Spend time in devotion / reflection. We all have a calling on our life from God. We have been gifted with talents and passions that God wants us to use to advance His Kingdom. Spending daily time with God studying scripture and reflecting on what your priorities should be that day will enhance your effectiveness. Starting my day in God’s Word definitely sets my priorities straight for the day. It keeps me focused on God’s purpose for my life and the values I want to portray throughout the day.

Love God / Love your neighbor. Good health and a positive life can resonate from your heart. Staying focused on this command from God will keep you focused on what is really important in life and insure that we are taking care of our self to insure that we can love God and our neighbors.

Maintaining your personal energy will make you a more effective servant leader. Your personal energy sets the example for your team members and enables you to generate energy in your team. It provides the fuel to help you become the leader of significance that you want to be.

What are some things you can do to enhance the care of your spirit that will build your personal energy?

Mark

“Do you not know?

    Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God,

    the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He will not grow tired or weary,

    and his understanding no one can fathom.

He gives strength to the weary

    and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,

    and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord

    will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

    they will run and not grow weary,

    they will walk and not be faint.”

Isaiah 40: 28-31
