I love organizations that rally around a great purpose/mission. The church we attend while we spend time in Arizona is a perfect example. Their purpose is:  “To follow Jesus on the bold, daring, reckless adventure of bringing grace to the world”.

The pastor of this congregation takes this mission very serious, as evidence by every activity of the congregation.  This week his sermon was directed to the Baby Boomer Generation. He challenged us to step up and take a leadership role in that mission. Not only in the local church, but the church at large as well.

He described Baby Boomers as having a PASSION TO CHANGE THE WORLD.  He claimed this passion was based on events that shaped our lives in the 1960’s & 1970’s. After listening to his examples I found all he said to be personally relevant.

With this in mind, I too would like to challenge the Baby Boomer readers of my blog.  I need your PASSION to help change the world.  I am convinced that we can build a movement of servant leadership, one focused on leading through our relationship with Jesus and serving others to help them achieve their God-given potential.

This is not a passive activity that will take place on its own. We need to bring our PASSION everyday to change the world through a focus on servant leadership, allowing Jesus to work through us on the journey. We need to follow our heart for this mission, and focus on it in every aspect of our lives. And we need to maintain our vision, and be optimistic about the fact that we can have a significant impact on making this vision a reality.

Great ways to PASSIONATELY make this happen would include:

  • Study and learn how Jesus led. That is our model for leadership!
  • Think others first. Always!
  • Listen for understanding before speaking to be understood.
  • Lead with mutual respect and trust for others.
  • Bring passion and energy to all your activities.
  • Constantly work to get better along the journey.
  • Ask for and offer forgiveness.
  • Build relationships.
  • Model your values. Allow your actions to speak louder than your words.
  • Pray for guidance and strength along the journey!

It is up to us! It is up to you! My prayer is that you get PASSIONATE about this mission and get intentional about stepping into this movement. Collectively we can change this world!
